I want to start off by saying I don’t typically open up to anybody like this, but you aren’t just anybody. You know me better than most. You’ve seen me at my highest of highs and my lowest of lows. You’ve been there for me when I just needed to clear my mind. You’ve brought an abundant amount of joy, but also a great amount of sadness to my life. Not that you meant to, but you did.
You see, when we first met, I had no idea what you’d mean to me later in life. In fact, I don’t even remember when we first met. Sorry about that, I was just so young.
Don’t worry though, I can give you detailed descriptions of several of our encounters. Some good, some bad. But that’s how relationships go in life, right?
Guess what? I certainly cherish the good times & the bad ones are all water under the bridge. You know that because I keep coming back to you, regardless of the pain you’ve put me through.
That’s because I love you. You mean more to me than most things in life. Some people would say that’s crazy, but they just don’t understand.
They don’t understand those grueling days I poured blood, sweat and tears out for you.
They don’t understand the relationships you’ve helped me build.
They don’t understand the countless nights I’ve stayed up watching you on the TV when I should have been fast asleep.
But that’s alright. They don’t have to understand.
You’ve also taught me what the word dedication means. You’ve showed me what commitment is. You’ve helped to define the term ‘together’ for me. Hell, you’ve even helped shape the term ‘family.’ Because that’s what you create, even if you don’t know it.
As I’m wrapping this letter up, I want you to know that you’re on my mind a lot. I know that we’ll continue our ups and downs of happiness and sorrow. That’s what makes you great. That’s what keeps me coming back for more.
So, basketball, keep being you.
